Graham Carter, CEO
Graham is based at Lincoln and is responsible for leading the Programme through its next phase of growth as a certification business.
Graham has forged an impressive career in turning good ideas into successful businesses. Most recently he was based in Canada as the Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Axia Software Corporation, a company that provides tools to help organisations maximise the efficiency of their capital investment. Before that Graham co-founded and was Chief Operating Officer of Acclaro Management Corporation, a Canadian company providing project management expertise for power utilities that grew into a well-respected engineering consultancy within western North America.
Graham has worked around the world in a variety of sectors including government, forestry and utilities. He has proven expertise in both investor and board relations having raised significant private equity funds and sat on numerous boards. These successes contributed to his nomination in successive years for the “Top 40 under 40 business executives” in Vancouver and once for Canada Entrepreneur of the year. Graham has spoken internationally on entrepreneurship and leadership and sits on the founding board for a future Vancouver Arts and Technology Centre provides vocational training to disadvantaged people.
Prior to moving to Canada, Graham had many years’ of engineering and management experience with a range of New Zealand organisations. His track record in building and operating successful organisations will be of real benefit to the Programme as it embarks on its next exciting phase of growth.
Graham has a Bachelor of Engineering in electronics, software and business from Auckland University of Technology.

Craig Muir, GM International Sales
Craig is based at Auckland and is responsible for the sales functions of the Programme with a particular emphasis on developing our international markets.
Auckland born, Craig has 10 years experience in the certification industry having worked for the world’s largest certification company, SGS, in various roles in New Zealand and overseas, including postings at SGS World Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland where he was Global Business Development Manager and later in the New York office as Global Key Account Manager and Sales Director for SGS North America.
Craig’s experience covers a wide range of systems and product certification programmes with experience in quality, environmental, food safety (HACCP), corporate governance and social responsibility areas.
Craig is a QSA approved Quality Systems Lead Assessor, has a diploma in Food Hygiene from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (UK), is a registered HACCP practitioner and trainer and holds numerous certificates within the engineering field.

Ann Smith, GM Technical
Ann is based at Lincoln and is responsible for technical development and quality of the Programme and related research. She participates in the development of international standards for greenhouse gas accounting and reporting to ensure that the certification of our clients is based on international best practice.
Ann has significant expertise and experience in environmental management and sustainable development strategies. Her previous roles include sustainability coordinator for a large UK university and project manager for collaborative projects designed to help businesses improve their environmental performance.
Ann was joint winner of the 2009 EECA Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy Award which was awarded by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority of New Zealand.
Ann has Bachelor of Science (Honours) in botany and psychology from the University of Adelaide, a Doctorate in marine biology from the University of London, and a professorship in environmental management for business from the University of Hertfordshire.

Belinda Mathers, Acting Certification Manager
Belinda is based at Lincoln and is a consulting environmental engineer for GHD Limited and currently being contracted as the Certification Manager for the programme. As the Acting Certification Manager, Belinda is responsible for witnessing audits, verifier assessments, and ensuring that the JAS-ANZ accreditation commitments are upheld throughout the verification process.
Belinda has specialist skills in GHG emissions management and a broad range of experience in environmental assessments and due diligence, developing and auditing environmental management systems, and resource efficiency. She has experience in GHG, energy and waste auditing for industry, as well as compliance auditing. Belinda is currently GHD’s international technical leader for Environmental Management Systems and Audits, with responsibility for developing and maintaining technical competency across GHD’s global operations.
Belinda has a Bachelor of Engineering in chemical and process engineering from Canterbury University and a Doctorate in chemical engineering from Monash University.

Karen Tipper, Deputy Certifier
Karen is based at Lincoln and her work involves managing the Programme verification process for New Zealand customers. This includes witness audits, verifier assessments, and ensuring that the JAS-ANZ accreditation commitments are upheld throughout the verification process.
Karen joined us from Deloitte where she worked as an Audit Senior Manager. She has provided both internal and external audit services to many clients in New Zealand, UK and Germany. Her recent areas of focus have included audits for carboNZero certification as an approved verifier, external and internal audits of both listed and private companies and internal controls reviews.
Karen is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) with over ten years accounting and auditing experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in German and business studies from Warwick University.

Bronwyn Jackson, Verification Manager
Bronwyn is responsible for the verification processes for the Programme. She has a home based office in Tauranga and works out of both the Lincoln and Auckland offices.
Bronwyn has been a quality management consultant and business advisor before joining the team. She has auditing qualifications in quality management, environmental management, health and safety and health and disability. When not at work Bronwyn plays golf and enjoys a large busy extended family.
Bronwyn has a
New Zealand Certificate in Science, diplomas in microbiology and biochemistry and a MBA from Waikato University.

Stu McKenzie, Senior Technical Advisor
Stu is based at Lincoln and supports organisations as they go through the Programme. He leads sourcing and assessment of carbon credits for those clients that require offsets for their carboNZero certification.
Stu has considerable experience in greenhouse gas accounting and has contributed to several research projects including the New Zealand Carbon Monitoring System and EBEX21 indigenous forest carbon credits programme. He is continuously seeking options to minimise his own personal impacts and is increasing his rate of cycling to work, use of a carpool, and making his house more energy efficient.
Stu has a Bachelor of Science in geography and earth sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in natural resource management from Massey University.

Craig McCutcheon, Senior Technical Advisor
Craig is based at Auckland and supports organisations as they go through the Programme. His focus is on the carbon footprinting of products and services. He is responsible for development of our tools and guidance for products and services. In particular, Craig will ensure that our Programme keeps abreast of international developments in carbon labelling of products.
Craig is an experienced supply chain systems analyst specialising in measuring external costs such as carbon associated with products and supply chains. He recently returned to New Zealand from the United Kingdom, where he worked for two years in the Carbon Trust's Product Footprinting division in London, auditing and certifying numerous product carbon footprint models against the PAS2050.
Craig holds a Masters Degree in Commerce in management science and information systems from the University of Auckland.

Stephen Burgham, Advisor
Stephen is based at Lincoln and supports organisations as they go through the Programme. He has responsibility for maintaining and developing the Programme's emissions factors database.
Stephen has many years of research experience in soil science (including field description of soils, interpretation for land use, and soil databases) and he has specialised in remote sensing, image processing of satellite data and environmental management.
Stephen has a strong interest in environmental issues. He has a large organic vegetable garden and his house is becoming increasingly energy-efficient.
Stephen has a Bachelor of Science in earth sciences from Massey University.

Sebastian Mierau, Advisor
Sebastian is based at Auckland and supports organisations as they go through the Programme. He has responsibility for developing tools to assist organisations to measure and manage their greenhouse gas emissions and product carbon footprints.
Sebastian has experience at central and local government level in climate change policy, emissions profiles, environmental footprinting and climate change mitigation strategies with the Ministry for the Environment and the Communities for Climate Protection programme. He has recent experience as a bee keeper in Nelson where he developed pest control and monitoring systems to secure organic status for the business.
Sebastian has studied towards a Masters of Science in energy and environmental management at the University of Flensburg, Germany. A requirement for this degree was an international exchange year, which he completed in Victoria University of Wellington. This research evolved into a Masters of Science thesis in geography about climate change in the Pacific.

May Chang, NZ Advisor
May is based at Lincoln and provides technical key account management support for our clients to ensure they progress through the Programme in a timely manner. This includes supporting businesses and events from sign-up to being ready for verification, and monitoring the small enterprise certification programme.
May works closely with our partners and special projects, including Project Litefoot Trust, a green initiative that is led by New Zealand’s most prominent athletes working towards measuring and reducing their own emissions and inspire more people to live sustainably. May is a talented golfer and has been a member of the Canterbury Women’s Golf Team since 2000.
May has a Bachelor of Recreation Management in tourism and marketing from Lincoln University.

Daniela Ramirez, Business Development Manager - Chile
Daniela is based at Lincoln and works with both New Zealand and International clients, particularly in Latin American, to help them achieve Programme certification
Daniela has a special interest in climate change and carbon management. She is an environmental engineer with experience in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems and food and safety standards in different sectors such as wine, animal production and food processing. She was also an assistant lecturer for an environmental management course at the University of Chile.
Daniela has a Bachelor of Science in natural resources from the University Of Chile and a Master of Technology in environmental management from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.

Laurence Wade, Country Manager – United Kingdom
Laurence is based in England as Country Manager. His role is primarily focused on supporting our business partner, Achilles, in the UK to ensure that the programme is a commercial success. He is responsible for developing strategic sales channels within key target sectors, and fostering relationships with business and industry influencers.
Laurence comes with a wealth of experience from an energy and utilities background and most recently worked for the Carbon Trust in England for five years in customer facing and solution selling roles as both Key Account and Sector Manager.
Laurence has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business and Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing.

Kathryn Hailes, Country Manager - Australia
Kathryn is based in Melbourne and her Country Manager role is primarily focused on managing and supporting our business partners in Australia to ensure that the programme is a commercial success for them and for us. She is also responsible for developing strategic sales channels within key target sectors, and fostering relationships with business and industry influencers.
Kathryn previously retained overall responsibility for the Programme’s marketing and communications, both domestically and internationally.
Kathryn has a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours) in marketing management from the University of Otago.

Josephine Rudkin-Binks, New Zealand Sales Manager
Josephine is based at Auckland and is responsible for leading the coordination, development and acquisition of domestic business for the Programme.
Originally from the UK, Josephine began her sales career in the hotel and events industry where she worked for Grosvenor House Hotel (Park Lane, London) and then as Sale’s Director for IBR (which is now, under the name of Zibrant, one of the UK’s largest events companies). In 2005 Josephine and her family moved to Auckland where she took a position with AUT The Conference Centre as business development manager. It was there that she found her passion for sustainability when she initiated the Conference Centre’s sustainability programme, which lead to them winning the Sustainable Business Network’s (SBN) “Get Sustainable Challenge” national finals.
Josephine has a BTEC Higher National Diploma in business and finance from the London Metropolitan University (formerly North London Polytechnic).

Chris Thurston, Sales Executive
Chris is based at Auckland and is the first contact for enquiries about the Programme and helps to support the development and acquisition of domestic business. Chris works directly with potential clients from all sectors to ensure they fully understand the Programme and the certification services that are on offer.
Chris has been campaigning for environmental sustainability since a young age and now looks to cement himself within the industry. He has a passion for football and experiencing different cultures. He joins the team after watching the All Whites remarkable displays in South Africa in 2010.
Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce with an endorsement in marketing from the University of Canterbury.

Chris Rook, Marketing Manager
Chris is based at Auckland and is responsible for leading our marketing and communications across key international and domestic markets.
He has a strong interest in the corporate sustainability strategies, specifically businesses’ long term success in relation to its environmental and social performance.
He brings a wealth of B2B and B2C marketing experience from previous roles in a variety of industries. With Vodafone Group and Vodafone UK he has held global and local positions in brand management, sponsorship, customer relationship management, direct marketing and product management. In New Zealand, he has plied his brand development skills in consultant and strategy roles with New Zealand Racing Board (TAB), Telecom Gen-i and the Mitre 10 Group.
Chris has a BSc (Hons) in Management Sciences and Diploma in Industrial Studies from Loughborough University, together with a Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma from Oxford College of Marketing.

Alan Carnaby, Marketing Advisor
Alan is based at Auckland and works with clients to provide advice around the use of the Programme certification marks, making credible carbon footprint claims and how to gain value from marketing their certification. He also assists with monitoring the media, market research, implementation of our marketing plan and pursuing new sales opportunities.
Alan has experience working in sports marketing and hospitality roles. He has worked as a tree planter and tree pruner up in the Tiwi Islands north of Darwin, Australia. Alan is also a keen sports fan and participates in rugby and tennis teams.
Alan has a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours) in marketing management from the University of Canterbury.

James McLafferty
, IT Systems and Project Manager
James is based at Lincoln and manages the Programme calculators, website, web applications plus supporting software and servers. He is also responsible for project management of IT related projects.
James has been working with technology and businesses in New Zealand and the UK for over 10 years. He has an increasing interest in caring for the environment and the impact individuals have on global problems. When he is not working he can be found out in the hills or down a river enjoying the outdoors.
James has a Bachelor of Commerce and Physical Education from the University of Otago.

Sally McRae, People and Culture Manager
Sally is based at Lincoln and will be the first point of contact for new staff members and also works on creating and maintaining the culture of carboNZero holdings as we grow.
Sally has worked with a diverse range of organisations including Employers Associations, Television New Zealand/Avalon TV Centre, DSIR and Work and Income. Since having children she has consulted off and on even writing a report when in labour. Both were delivered on time! She has also had a stint with South Island Prisons (not as a prisoner!) training managers putting in policies and procedures.
Sally has been very involved in her children’s education at Discovery 1 and Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti/High School, with informal role of “head of grovelling” (fundraising maestro in the past) and has two rex cats, two axolotls and a rabbit called Pumpkin. Sally has been a serial volunteer with stints with Youthline, Victims Support, Wellington Zoo. She has also loved her time as the “Speaker Manager/Mother” for the two TEDx Events held in Christchurch. The first with a sustainability theme and feel and the second with a similar feel, but was in response to the earthquakes in Christchurch.
Initial education had her leaving school at 15 having passed University Entrance and doing a NZIM Management Diploma and Certificate in Commerce Course. Since then she has completed many papers and a post grad level course and is continually looking for her next study, whether formal or informal, which supports the educational philosophy with learning being a lifelong process.

Alana Vallance, Office Manager
Alana is based at Lincoln and looks after all office issues for the Programme team.
Alana's background is in accounts payable/receivable and office administration. She came to the Programme from working in Accounts at Landcare Research. She has a strong concern for the environment and has starting using energy efficient lighting throughout her house and tries to recycle where ever possible.
Alana also has an interest in holistic health and has studied therapeutic massage for two and a half years.

Stacey Bates, Administration Assistant
Stacey is based at Lincoln and provides Administrative Assistance and support for the Programme’s certification activities and technical development.
Stacey is new to greenhouse gas certification but this is an area that she has always wanted to gain more knowledge. Coming from a legal background means Stacey is a real asset for the team as there are many standards and rules to which the Programme must adhere.
Stacey has practiced karate for the last 15 years and is currently completing a Legal Executive Diploma by correspondence through the New Zealand Law Society.
