About the carboNZero programme

Grove Mill winery is carboNZero certified

Grove Mill, the world's first carbon neutral certified winery

The carboNZero programme was established in 2001 by Landcare Research New Zealand Limited, one of New Zealand's leading Crown Research Institutes, owned by the New Zealand government. The programme is based on over a decade of research on climate change, greenhouse gas measurement and carbon monitoring.

Our goal is to provide robust tools for individuals, organisations and events to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions or carbon footprint with the highest level of credibility and integrity.

The Fundamentals

Measure: Measuring greenhouse gas emissions raises awareness of climate change impacts and identifies opportunities to manage and reduce emissions.

Manage: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is good for the atmosphere and good for business. It requires us to make changes to the way that we manage energy, water, waste and biodiversity. In taking up the challenge to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, you are setting out on a sustainability journey that will bring many other benefits.

Mitigate: Offsetting the remaining unavoidable emissions creates funding that is invested in projects such as native forest regeneration and renewable energy generation.

Market: Certification entitles you to use the mark or logo as recognition of your genuine achievement.

Motivate: Promotion of your achievement may motivate your suppliers and stakeholders to take similar action.

Through its ingredient brands, the carboNZero programme offers certification options at each of the measure, manage and mitigate steps.
